Weekly Rides - mid-April through Pelotonia

teamCOPC hosts training rides from mid-April until Pelotonia. We are focused on training riders for Pelotonia, but all are welcome to join. Please review the ride descriptions to join a ride suited to your abilities and training goals.

Scheduled rides will be listed here weekly, and spontaneous group rides will be posted on our Email List. or on our Facebook Page. In event of concerning weather, safety and common sense should dictate participation. Weather/Cancellation News will be posted at least an hour prior to the start times if indicated.

Educational Videos

Our Learners and Leaders Group Ride series is always very popular. With the pandemic in the Spring of 2020, we were unable to lead this group as usual. With that, we created a few videos with the hope that we could still  help riders be safer and more comfortable on the roads.

For seasoned cyclists who want to share knowledge, newer riders who want to learn, and casual riders. Weekly introductory talk about group and road cycling safety and protocols. We will not “push the pace”, but instead will help shepherd the learning riders. This group starts with easy and flat routes and will progress into some hill training by the end of June. Riders must be able to maintain an average ride pace of at least 13 mph. Road bikes strongly recommended.

Rider Expectations

All participants are asked to please complete THIS WAIVER

Helmets are always required, and we obey the rules of the road.

Road bikes are strongly recommended.

teamCOPC is committed to the safe group riding concept, and will stay together, or form several smaller groups, never dropping any riders.

Please have a “group ride” mindset.

We ride safely. We ride in groups. We do not drop riders.

We ask all riders to commit to this approach.

We will split up in pace groups.

Please respect the advertised group pace.

Some riders may not go as fast as they are able.

Please be aware and don’t drop riders.

Dropped riders are fatigued, injured, ill or have mechanicals.

They are frustrated and most vulnerable to cars from behind.

Let’s all commit to taking care of each other.

We ask all riders to choose their pace group sensibly.

Be considerate of the training needs of others.

Ride leaders can’t be everywhere. Help them out.

Regroup whenever a rider begins to fall back.

Breakaway groups are on their own. Let them go.

Finally, please park cars away from the buildings to be courteous to the Heit Center and other Market Square patrons while we ride.

This is a challenging ride that has become a favorite over the years for Pelotonia training. Groups are asked to stay together and take care of each other. Riders will decide the route based on planned pace and sunset time. It’s best to bring a friend for this ride.

The classic Sunday ride! Distance and terrain challenges increase later in the summer. We break into groups by anticipated average speed (14-15, 15-16, 16+) to keep riders together throughout the ride. We do not drop riders, and we watch out for each other. Best for riders comfortable with the road and able to average 14 mph (faster later in the season) or more over distance.
